2018 Brown Ranch Vineyard Pinot Noir

2018 Brown Ranch Vineyard Pinot Noir

From the coveted Brown Ranch Vineyard in Carneros, this Pinot Noir is made in an old world style. Complex and characterful, yet elegant and balanced. Highlighted by flavors of cranberry, Rhubarb, and Bing cherry; complimented by sweet spice and oak. Slightly more powerful than the 2017 and every bit as delicious!

  • Vineyard Information

Located in the Los Carneros AVA of the Napa Valley, the Brown Ranch Vineyard benefits greatly from its incredible location covering a 90 square mile area just north of the San Pablo Bay. Carneros is defined by the bay’s cooling morning fog and the geological aspects of its soils. The AVA varies slightly in elevation with the highest vineyards in the foothills reaching around 400ft above sea level. Brown Ranch is located on a hill side in a slightly warmer area of Carneros which causes the morning fogs to burn off quicker leading to longer periods of daytime warmth, perfect for our desired style of Pinot Noir. Dominated by lighter, clay loam soils, that tend to be less dense than other areas in Carneros. Brown Ranch provides great growing conditions that promotes proper vine stress and encourages more concentrated grapes of the highest quality!

  • Varietal Information

This vintage was made with 100% Clone 667 Pinot Noir grown on a southern facing slope, which was a bit cooler than our previous block. This resulted in a little more time to ripen while flavors concentrated beautifully. A member of the “Dijon” clones; 667 tends to have compact clusters with small berries of intense color due to the thick skins. Typically in cooler sites, this clone will be very aromatic with a dense and complex palate of red fruit and Christmas spice. The thick, yet soft, tannin provide age-ability while supporting drinking today!
